How many times do I need to tell you this? How many times do I need to talk to you about this? How many times do I need to fuss about this? How many times do I need to punish you for this same action? Are you tired of doing the same thing, getting in trouble about the same thing? Aren’t you tired of the same results: bad consequences for your wrong behavior? How long is it going to take before you realize you are not making good decisions?
Those of us who are parents may have asked our children some of those same questions. We wonder to ourselves and oftentimes out loud, how long will it take for my son, my daughter to see how wrong this is? Oftentimes, I think to myself, God gave me children so that I can do a self-check on my relationship with Him. Take a moment to think about it.
How long? It’s a question that I have to ask myself many times. How long will I allow the enemy to trip me up? How long will I allow my emotions to get the best of me? How long will I allow the opinions of someone else to stop me from doing what God has appointed me to do? How long will I keep doing the same thing over and over again, yielding the same unfavorable results? How long?
“Insanity is doing the same thing, over and over again, but expecting different results.”~Albert Einstein
It’s amazing to me that we keep doing wrong even when we hear the warning bells. We hear the warnings and we see the signs, but we keep doing wrong. It’s weird to me. We know we’re wrong; we know what we’re doing is wrong, but we keep doing wrong. We stay on that wrong road that leads to destruction. Even though we know it’s not right – we know that our actions are displeasing to God – we continue to stay on that wrong path. We’re basically saying, “I’m doing what I want to do because I want to do it.” Therefore, we continue to do wrong.
But for how long??!!
“And Saul said, Who are You, Lord? And He said, I am Jesus, Whom you are persecuting. It is dangerous and it will turn out badly for you to keep kicking against the goad [to offer vain and perilous resistance].
(Acts 9:5; AMP)
Traveling down the wrong road of resistance, rebellious, stubbornness, wrong way of thinking, wrong actions, and wrong attitude about God is dangerous! These behaviors will only lead us down the wrong path.
Sisters, how long will we keep doing the wrong thing? How long will we keep making the wrong decisions and expecting different outcomes? How long will we resist right for wrong? How long?
